I remember myself when I started reading a new book in the foreign language. The first pages were always covered in translation and notes. But the further I moved, the less notes I needed. However, at the beginning, it was crucially important to work hard with the vocabulary – I had to lay the foundation. That's what we're going to do next.

You may skip this step and start right with the exercises. But I recommend first to look through this list of keywords. Get a notebook for the new words from the book. Write them down, note the gender of a word and its other grammatical peculiarities (an imperfective or a perfective verb, what case it's used with, what phonetical changes occur, etc.)
